(JNS) Israel’s government collapsed this week, forcing the country into yet another election—the fourth in the last two years. The government automatically dissolved on Tuesday, December 22, at midnight after it failed to pass a budget for 2020. The move came after weeks of infighting and paralysis amid the so-called unity government that was formed last spring by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the Likud Party and Defense Minister Benny Gantz of Blue and White, which had turned Likud’s chief rival into a coalition partner.
Since a new election must take place three months after the collapse of the Knesset, the next round is scheduled for March 23.
