Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Students at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with special in-class activities on topics of race, equality and civil rights in age appropriate ways. Kindergarten watched a short video and read a book about Martin Luther King Jr. and his dreams for the future. Each child then created their own “I Am Special” project and shared it with their friends. Second grade watched portions of Dr. King’s famous “I Had A Dream” speech. The third grade students read books and discussed the dreams of Martin Luther King and then wrote down a few of their big dreams for the future. Each day of the week, the middle school students analyzed and responded to a quote by Dr. King and how it directly impacts their daily lives. They also heard excerpts from his speech accepting the Nobel Peace Prize. Teaching students consideration and respect for others, in this case the context of U.S. history, is a foundational principle of RPRY’s education.
