Aeronautics was the kickoff of an exciting week of STEM learning and competitions called aeronautics- methods “STEM-PIAD.” students quickly learned that aeronautics is the study of methods of designing airplanes. The elementary school students in grades one through five were treated to morning workshops from Mad Science where the focus was building different airplanes. During a live show, students learned the different forces of air around the airplanes such as lift, thrust, drag and gravity. Different lengths and heights of the wings also have an effect on how far and how high the airplanes fly. In the afternoon, the classes held competitions to see whose airplanes flew the furthest.Stay tuned for more coverage about STEM-PIAD!
