Joining a virtual coffee house over Zoom, the sixth grade participated in their first Poetry Slam! They donned dark glasses and Beatnik-era clothing to bring their poetry unit to life! In preparation, students published personal collections of poetry that incorporated figurative language and poetic analysis. Then, each student selected a favorite piece to share with the grade at the Poetry Slam. To top off the evening’s “coffee house” vibe, Mrs. Perl and Mrs. Rivel, the sixth grade ELA teachers, supplied each student with dark sunglasses, a personalized mug and delicious hot chocolate. Snapping fingers and a lively Zoom chat were used to congratulate friends on a job well done!
