SAR Academy’s fourth grade excitedly celebrated a virtual Colonial Night. For weeks, the students have been learning about daily life in early America through research and hands-on exploration. This investigation culminated in the creation of a colonial village in the form of an online app. The village reflected the aspects of colonial life that the students learned about, including health care, childhood, food and farming. SAR’s fourth graders guided their guests through the village app and continued the night participating in various hands-on experiences of colonial life like pickling, churning butter and making a humming toy called a whirligig!
With Colonial Night being featured on Zoom this year, the fourth graders participated in some crafts in school on the day of the event as well. The students wrote with a quill and ink, wove baskets, and made their own besamim from the “apothecary.” As the students continue to engage in their first year of learning history, this day surely left an impression!
