JKHA middle school students set the tone for Yom Hazikaron as they brought home the name and biography of a fallen soldier to dedicate their learning on Yom Hazikaron to, in addition to a candle to light in their memory. Learning in middle school classes was also dedicated to a specific soldier, with each class beginning their session by hearing about their lives. They took part in the morning in a program that added meaning and context to all the lives lost in defending the state of Israel and victims of terror.
On Yom Hazikaron, lower school students took the opportunity to say thank you through cards and artwork, to the members of the IDF who work to protect the Land of Israel and enjoyed an insightful video about lone soldiers in the IDF.
First graders experienced a very special moment of connection to the Land of Israel on Yom Hazikaron when they had the opportunity to facetime with their teacher Morah Feldman’s daughter Yael, (JKHA ‘15/RKYHS ‘19) who is in the IDF in a commander’s course is serving in the Air Force. Yael shared what she did to commemorate Yom Hazikaron and what she is doing in the army. The students were able to ask her questions about life in the IDF. It added special meaning to the day’s tefillah for the Land of Israel and the tefillah for its soldiers.
