Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Last week marked an important opportunity for the SAR community to strengthen its connection to Israel. On Wednesday, students, faculty and staff were joined by the wider community for an especially meaningful Yom Hazikaron tekes. Everyone gathered together “on the steps” to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers who bravely fought and sacrificed for Medinat Yisrael, as well as remember those who have fallen to terror. In addition to beautiful songs and tefillot, students heard accounts from students and faculty who have tragically lost loved ones serving the State of Israel. Yizkor candles were lit one by one in the memory of these heroic friends and family, including SAR alumnus, Ari Fuld z”l. Throughout the day, students participated in special programming including “visits” from IDF chayalim, some of whom were former students. The chayalim shared personal reflections on their service to Medinat Yisrael.

The transition from Yom Hazikaron into Yom Ha’atzmaut was beautiful thanks to the incredible faculty and staff who planned an array of creative and thoughtful programming. Everyone enjoyed an incredible day at SAR, celebrating 73 years of Medinat Yisrael’s independence. As the school joined via Zoom for a musical Hallel, the simcha throughout the building was palpable and the strong connections to Israel were deeply felt.

The day continued with special programming, including a dance party with DJ Rafi, picnic lunches by pod, blue slushies and plenty of creative and fun Israel-themed activities, sports and games. The middle school held its annual Beit Sefer L’Musika, where students showcased their incredible musical talent. Mazal tov to our winners:
