WDS celebrated STEM Day 2021 with catapults! Students in grades k-eight designed and built catapults with popsicle sticks, rubber bands and a variety of materials they brought from home. The students had two challenges: to see how far their catapult could launch a paper ball and to see if they could knock over a wall made of cardboard bricks. Awards were given in each grade. The winning catapult launched over 35 feet!
Since STEM day coincided with Yom Yerushalayim this year, students also participated in a program where they decorated and assembled different parts of the Kotel. The students learned how Jerusalem has survived many many attacks throughout history, some of which were launched with catapults. The connections between the STEM Day challenge and Yom Yerushalayim were profound. It was a beautiful day!
