Extra! Extra! Read all about it! First graders at Westchester Torah Academy have published their very own newspaper.
After beginning the school year reviewing letter formation and sounds, the class spent time learning interactive sentence writing, paragraphing and exploring newspapers and their different sections. Each student then chose a topic to write about, conducted research when needed, wrote and edited their articles and even added their own illustrations.
Families gathered outdoors for a picnic-style Authors’ Breakfast. Students, parents and grandparents joined in their bathrobes and slippers for a cup of coffee and muffins baked by the class. Each student then had the opportunity to read the newspaper out loud to their family. Articles included an interview with the head of school, science research, travel destinations, book and toy reviews and more. This incredible event was a unique celebration of the children’s learning and hard work!
