Mixed Feelings About the New Israeli Government

As I watch the swearing in of Prime Minister Bennett, I have mixed emotions. One of pride where the democratic process is well and alive in Israel. But also one of sadness where Israel’s most talented Prime Minister, PM Netanyahu, has his time as PM ending. PM Netanyahu made sure that Israel’s security was always his primary concern.
I hope and pray the new PM will take the issue of Israel security with the same level of importance and courage as the outgoing prime minister. I also hope that PM Bennet is successful in his stated policies of strengthening Yehuda and Shomron, growing the economy and maintaining the religious status quo and not be a “fig leaf” of the left and some of their priorities. This new administration must be able to close the revolting divide that exists today in Israel. I hope that Rabbi Akiva’s words of
ואהבת לרעך כמוך are the underlying principle of this new government as it is the underlying principle of the Torah. We must remember that everything that happens is part of Hashem’s grand plan. While we do not always understand the plan and may not agree with the plan, we should always pray for success that will strengthen the state and people of Israel.
