Yom HaShoah: Is It Too Much to Ask?

I am a Holocaust survivor, and could not agree more with Rabbi Moshe Taragin in his article “Tisha B’Av and the 20th Century” (July 15, 2021). Rabbi Taragin perfectly expresses that nothing can “begin to compare to the Holocaust in scope and intensity.” There is no event in our history that can parallel to the Holocaust. The Holocaust must stand on its own.

In fact, there is a date in the calendar—the 27th of Nissan—that is unfortunately overlooked by many of us. Is it too much to observe Yom HaShoah, light six candles and say Yizkor in memory of the six million precious souls who perished?
