Balanced Scoring Propels YU Men’s Soccer to Convincing Skyline Win Over Purchase College

(yumacs.com) The Yeshiva University men’s soccer team earned a convincing Skyline victory over Purchase College, 6-0, at Votee Park on Thursday evening. The Maccabees bump their record to 2-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Skyline play. The Panthers fall to 4-6-1 and 1-5-1 in league contests.

“Everyone on the squad played a part in tonight’s big win,” Yeshiva University Head Coach J.J. Davidson said. “We will enjoy tonight but tomorrow it’s back to the training ground to prepare for a huge week ahead.”

Yeshiva had six different goal scorers during the evening. Sophomore forward Lucas Baredes led the way with a four-point performance, scoring on a penalty kick during the 60th minute and adding a pair of assists.

The Maccabees opened the scoring just over three minutes into the match as junior midfielder Jess Rom received the ball from Baredes and tipped it into the net from deep inside the box to give YU a 1-0 advantage.

During the 30th minute, sophomore forward Josh Ziarno intercepted the ball off a Purchase player, ran down the field and beat the opposing goalkeeper on a breakaway to extend the Macs’ lead to two goals. That would be the score after 45 minutes of play.

In the 53rd minute, Baredes once again showed off his playmaking ability as he wedged the ball to junior forward Ethan Fettaya, who scorched it into the back of the cage from just inside the box to pad YU’s advantage to three goals.

With YU up, 4-0, sophomore forward Rafael Cohen joined the scoring parade during the 78th minute as he shot the ball and it went off the goalkeeper’s hands and rolled into the net to put the home team up, 5-0. Less than four minutes later, first-year midfielder Naor Dahan kicked the ball towards the box from the corner and the ball was guided into the net off a header by sophomore defender Yonatan Reiter to inflate the Blue and White’s lead to 6-0. That ended up being the final score.

For the evening, Yeshiva doubled Purchase in shots, 20-10. The Maccabees also had the heavy advantage in corner kick opportunities, 8-1.

Senior goalkeeper Sagi Badash stopped all three shots he faced, sharing a shutout with junior netminder Nicolas Dlugach who made one save of his own in relief.
