The fifth graders are busily involved in studying various types of natural disasters. How fortuitous that the weather is cooperating and providing real examples of the weather events students are exploring. Just this month our country has experienced wildfires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes! The students have read realistic fiction books about people living through natural disasters and read stories and watched videos about storm chasers and meteorologists. The next story examines volcanic eruptions in our country and abroad. Each student will be writing a short research paper delving into a disaster event and how it affects the people, community and environment in its path.
