Jewish Home Celebrates Resident’s 100th Birthday

(Courtesy of The Jewish Home) Ruth Cesar doesn’t feel like she’s lived a century, but she says she’s honored that people are so interested in advice on how they, too, can enjoy such longevity.

“Eat the proper foods and exercise,” she said at her 100th birthday bash at Jewish Home Assisted Living in River Vale, where she lives. “I have very good friends I dine with daily. I’ve made some wonderful friendships at the Jewish Home. My children are also devoted, and I became a great-grandma this year.”

What are the “proper foods” she refers to? “I watch my diet since I want my clothes to fit,” she said. “I take a multivitamin with prune juice and enjoy oatmeal or farina and fruit for breakfast, as well as one hard boiled egg.”

Ruth likes to read the newspaper daily “and if I have a good book I’ll read that, too,” she said. “I attend almost all of the programs offered. I especially like political discussions. I walk a lot and love the exercise classes.”

Her friends and the staff had been planning to celebrate her special day for a while. “The home really showed a great consideration for my birthday with that party,” she said. “Everyone had a great time and there was champagne and cake. The entertainment was impressive and all the flowers and cards make my room look like a florist’s!”
