TCA middle school students started a new unit featuring Georgia O’Keefe last week. They used watercolors and oil pastels to draw and then paint oak leaves. Warm colors (red, orange, yellow) were used for the leaves while cool colors (blue, green, purple) were painted for the background. The following week they continued the Georgia O’Keefe study and shifted from watercolor painting leaves to creating flowers by cutting and layering wallpaper! The students made a background for their flowers by using oil pastels in either warm or cool colors to draw organic shapes and making a corresponding watercolor wash over the entire piece.
