(Courtesy of Bergenfield Public Library) On Sunday, November 14, Robert Armbruster and Anna Ramirez were formally honored as recipients of the Lucille Tendler Community Service Award. The ceremony took place at the Bergenfield High School auditorium and featured a performance by the All Seasons Chamber Players. Created by the Bergenfield Public Library Board of Trustees, this recognizes the service contributions of the recipient to the Bergenfield community. Past winners of the award include Bergenfield residents Joe Verga, Matthew Connell, James Lodato and Joanne Thomas.
Before relocating to North Carolina, Lucille Tendler served diligently on the Bergenfield Library’s Board of Trustees for 14 years, acting as president and secretary. During her tenure, she helped coordinate the library’s comprehensive strategic plan and advocated tirelessly on behalf of the library. In addition to her work with the Bergenfield Library, Tendler was involved in several other community volunteer projects as well, including the Arts Council. This award is meant to honor her as a model for public service in a town that prides itself on volunteerism and civic engagement.
The Bergenfield Library Board of Trustees invites all area residents to nominate candidates for their upcoming 2022 Award.
The recipient of the Lucille Tendler Community Service Award must be nominated by an individual or group. Members of the Board of Trustees may not nominate a candidate while serving on the Board. A nominee may be an individual or a group. Civic organizations or scout troops are encouraged to apply as well as organized groups of individuals who have provided a service to the community. Nominees must be/have been a Bergenfield resident or active in a Bergenfield-based organization or a group active in the Bergenfield community. If the nominee no longer lives in the Bergenfield community, or is no longer active in a group serving the Bergenfield community, they must be nominated within two years of terminating their Bergenfield residency or terminating their association with the group. There are no age qualifications for the nominee, and may be any age, child to senior citizen.
Community service may be defined as a longtime commitment to providing service to individuals, groups or the community as a whole. Service may be environmental in nature, educational, charitable, civic, public health/disease related. All past nominees will be automatically considered for the 2022 award.
Nominations will be accepted until January 31, 2022. Pending the public health crisis, the recipient will be announced and presented with their award in the spring of 2022.
