Joy and light…learning and fun…the eight days of Chanukah were so exciting at Manhattan Day School! Chanukah was introduced with an annual MDS tradition- a “Glow in the Dark” silent DJ concert for all grades. Throughout the day, ruach and glowsticks illuminated the students’ faces around the room. “I have been looking forward to this since last Chanukah” commented Moshe V., third grader, as he played freeze dance, coke and pepsi and danced to Chanukah music.
The week has been full of festive activities as the joy of Chanukah illuminated the early childhood community! The youngest learners watched a Chanukah mystery show, learned about fire safety and sang Chanukah songs at oneg! On Tuesday, the entire EC enjoyed a special Chanukah puppet show presented by Wondersparks Theatre entitled “The Lost Latkes.” The Beit midrash rang with bubbling laughter as the children enjoyed a highly interactive presentation of puppets performing a hilarious Chanukah-themed mystery. On Wednesday, the EC was visited by Firefighter Felix, who shared safety tips with his rapt audience. Some of the important tips the children learned were to call 9-1-1 in an emergency and the message of stop, drop and roll in event of a fire. On Friday, everyone joined together with Maestro Nathaniel for a Shabbat oneg/ Rosh Chodesh assembly in anticipation for Rosh Chodesh Tevet. Everyone was so glad to come together as a community to celebrate Chanukah with teachers and friends.
