Manhattan Day School values building a foundation of lifelong learning and connection to Hashem and mitzvot. Manhattan Day School teachers instill these values daily, through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. In conjunction with Torah education in the classroom, students participate in learning opportunities with their families that foster a connection to the community.
From athletics to holiday programs, MDS parents truly enjoy spending time with their children in school. In a beautiful annual winter tradition, each year the entire middle school joins together for parent-child learning. The energy and ruach are felt throughout the day as students and parents participate in a guided chavruta text study, culminating in a class-wide shiur where parents and students share their Torah thoughts.
Lower School Mashgiach Ruchani Rabbi Genack and his fourth grade talmidim learned the first two mishnayot in Brachot and kicked off an exciting Mishna Yomi program as well. “I look forward to introducing this program and I am excited for students to get involved in this initiative, along with our already successful Amud Yomi and Mishmar programming,” he said.
Rabbi Ariel Cohen, Manhattan Day School assistant principal commented, “The Parent Child Learning Day is a special opportunity for parents to nurture a relationship of Torah with their children.” Rabbi Cohen created a shiur on the topic of honoring one’s parents which connects to the Gemara and Chumash segments these students are currently learning.
Parents appreciated getting a first hand view first hand into the classroom and their children’s learning experiences. “As a father, I appreciate having the opportunity to learn with my daughters and see the skills they have been working on come to fruition.” said Josh E. parent of Orly (8G) and Devorah (5G).
Whether in person or remote, Manhattan Day School looks forward to running continued intergenerational events that bring parents and children together for unforgettable moments of inspiration and connection!
