Exceeding Expectations With Russo’s Steven Finkelstein

Steven Finkelstein

Steven Finkelstein of Russo Real Estate is a people person with a propensity for excellent customer service. Like many brokers, he is expert in the marketplace and has an in-depth understanding of the industry, but his talents as an agent surpass those standards, promising not only a successful experience but also an enjoyable one.

Originally from Brooklyn, Finkelstein moved to Teaneck in 2005 while he was a sales executive in the watch and jewelry industry, specializing in wholesale and retail management. There was a significant decline in the market in 2016, and he felt it was time to start the next chapter. With years of experience in sales, and an affinity with homes and design, Finkelstein was driven to pursue a career in real estate.

He ventured into Russo Real Estate and was immediately inspired by Lydia Russo, who he said was friendly and supportive. Lydia, who has since passed away, encouraged him to pursue his dream. Eight months later he secured his broker’s license and a position at Russo Real Estate. Finkelstein remains indebted to Lydia and the Russo family for this life-changing opportunity and is proud to be part of a company with strong community roots.

“Russo Real Estate brings years of experience and exposure in the industry,” said Finkelstein, who believes their knowledge of the northern New Jersey market has earned them a reputation of being the best. As a local leader serving the community for over 50 years, they possess the know-how coupled with state-of-the-art resources to successfully get the job done. They also retain teams in every area of the business, said Finkelstein, providing unparalleled support for brokers and excellent customer service for clients.

Finkelstein, whose motto is “Work hard, play hard,” quickly earned distinctions and awards that have placed him at the top of his game. He was the recipient of the NJ Realtors® Circle of Excellence Sales Award 2017-2020 and the Greater Bergen Association of Realtors® 2018/2019 Rising Star Award. His distinguishments include Broker-Associate, SRES® -Seniors Real Estate Specialist®, SRS- Seller Representative Specialist and Notary Public NJ.

Finkelstein is an outgoing person who prides himself on getting along with all types of people. He develops trustworthy relationships with his clients based on honesty and transparency throughout the process. His ability to understand what the client wants and making that a reality has made him an instant success and a client favorite.

He understands that buying a house is one of the biggest decisions a person will make and admits it can be daunting. At the same time, he considers it a milestone accomplishment that he personally enjoys helping others achieve.

“I take my job seriously and aim to match my clients with what they are looking for,” said Finkelstein. Often they aren’t sure what they want and turn to him for direction. “If I think a property isn’t a good match I will say so,” he said, and added that his goal isn’t just about the sale, but also the customer service along the way. “I sign on from the beginning of the process until the keys are handed over.” His clients attest to his commitment and dedication, many keeping in touch long after the transaction is complete.

At the onset of the pandemic, Finkelstein was forced to pivot his approach to sales, relying mostly on FaceTime and virtual tours; nonetheless, he remained equally dedicated to helping his clients succeed. He managed to sell his first million-dollar home to an out-of-town buyer on FaceTime, an accomplishment of which he is very proud. The client was extremely grateful for the service and even made a donation to Finkelstein’s temple in his honor. As the rules shifted, Finkelstein was happy to get back out there and meet clients in a COVID-safe way.

As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, Finkelstein dedicates considerable time working with the senior population, hosting monthly presentations and lectures for the Senior Source of Hackensack, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting seniors. For many older people, as they approach a time when they have to consider selling a home or finding a new place to live, the transition can be challenging, explained Finkelstein, who is trained to simplify the process.

Community service is a priority to him and he is quick to offer a hand when needed. Finkelstein participates in community fundraising, feeding the homeless, packing meals for students and holiday gift wrapping at the mall. He is also a member of the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce, the Teaneck Real Estate Committee and various community and professional volunteer groups.

In his free time, Finkelstein enjoys gardening, exercise and fine dining. He is an avid cruiser and describes the experience as a relaxing environment where he can socialize yet still conduct business. Due to COVID-19, that ship has temporarily sailed, though Finkelstein very much hopes to cruise again one day soon.
