In conjunction with their unit on post WWI, the eighth grade students at Tenafly Chabad Academy studied FDR’s New Deal. After the students researched all the programs that were created to boost the economy during that era, they created rhyming raps to capture each plan and then presented their raps to the class. Through this engaging activity, the students enjoyed discovering how the Social Security Act and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) were created, as well as other programs that stabilized banks, improved public works and generated environmental reforms. While some students presented the rap in person, others used Uberduck.ai and had their rap presented through an MP3 audio file with the voice of a famous rapper singing for them. “Learning about the New Deal was so interesting, and being able to have the opportunity to rap it was a great experience,” said Sarahi Marcus. “The rap made the New Deal real!” said Cheftztiba Boteach.
