The pre-K class at the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School at Congregation AABJ&D started a unit all about their bodies, beginning with the heart. The children tried feeling their heartbeat with their hands and then ran in place to see how their heartbeat felt after some exercise. They were surprised to see it was a faster pace than before running. To help supplement this unit, Jon Newcombe, from Hatzalah of Livingston and West Orange, came to the class to show students a pulsometer and stethoscope and let them hear how these tools help doctors and EMTs check the heart and lungs. It was an exciting lesson, and the class cannot wait to continue their unit on bodies.
