Olympic fever is sweeping through JKHA as classes work towards building their rings! Early childhood and lower school held an opening ceremony for the JKHA Olympics. Lower school classes arrived at the ceremony carrying their Olympic torches representing their class. From Monday February 7, through Friday, February 18, students have competed together as a grade to complete Olympic rings that will be displayed outside their classrooms. Each time they “earn” points towards their class Olympics, they will get closer to completing their rings. Sample ways to earn rings include helping classmates, displaying good listening skills, performing acts of kindness, excelling at classwork or assignments and more. The Olympics will inspire writing prompts as well for writing exercises as students learn all about the winter activities that athletes are competing in. The division will also be keeping track of medals earned for different countries throughout the regular Olympics. Students are looking forward to joining together to cheer on hometown hero Hailey Kops (JKHA ‘16) as she represents Israel and competes in pairs figure skating in the winter Olympics.

Students created their own class flag after learning how each country is represented by their own flag in the Olympics. Each flag is unique and can have different designs and/or colors. They also learned all about the medals, various sporting events and about the first Olympics and where it took place. Students like coming into the classroom in the morning to look at the daily medal count and tally the total amount of medals won. They look forward to continuing their Olympic fever!
