Dr. Steven Stein, chair of the RKYHS science department was recently selected as a Congressional Hero. Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill launched the 2021 Heroes recognition program to recognize members of the community who have made a difference in the 11th district that she serves over the past calendar year. Dr Stein was nominated for the contributions he made to ensuring in-person learning at JKHA/RKYHS through utilizing the RKYHS science labs to open a COVID screening center that uses LAMP technology to survey and screen pools of students.

“Dr. Stein is a research virologist, and has dedicated his professional career to inspiring students to explore impact-based scientific research to solve real-world problems. Dozens of students have pursued careers in science and research because of his transformative mentorship,” commented Rabbi Eliezer E. Rubin, JKHA/RKYHS head of school and Klatt Family rosh hayeshiva. “Under his leadership, we have introduced a variety of mitigation protocols that have been very effective at keeping our community safe while revealing asymptomatic students and teachers.”
