When there are Jews in need in the world, it is our duty to try and help in any way we can. This important lesson is central at Yavneh Academy, and when the need for funds for Ukraine became clear, Yavneh students, staff and parents all jumped into action.
Brainstorming sessions turned Fridays into “Pizza with a Purpose,” with the school selling over 600 slices of pizza. Yavneh’s Parents Association planned a bake sale and middle school students will hold a variety of smaller sales to raise money. All proceeds from these efforts will go directly to help the Ukrainian Jewish community with safe havens, supplies and travel out of the country.
The entire Yavneh Academy family are helping their brothers and sisters in the Ukraine, embodying one of Judaism’s most important principles, as said by Rabbi Hillel: “If I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?”
