The authors of the “Trillium Sisters,” Elly Kramer and Laura Brown, came to Yeshivat He’Atid to speak to the first through fourth grade students about the writing process. This was particularly special for the first graders as they will be publishing their own fairytales later this year as part of their Project Based Learning unit!

The authors discussed their book writing process-how they came up with the idea, character development, mood boards, idea notebooks and other approaches that help generate an exciting book. They also talked about the best way to write with a partner and that good writers hear the ideas of others and say “yes, and” rather than “no, but.” The children enjoyed speaking to the authors and asking many questions. After hearing the authors speak, the students were inspired to get started on their own stories right away.
