A party is always fun, but according to Steven Tanzman, a party on a yacht is undeniably more fun. Tanzman is the creator and manager of Yacht Events LLC, a premier luxury yacht rental company that offers the perfect venue for weddings, bar or bat mitzvah parties, corporate events and private parties. Situated on the New York Harbor with spectacular views of the city skyline, their vessels can accommodate events of all sizes and aesthetics, complete with an exceptional culinary experience.
A veteran in the hospitality industry, Tanzman started his career at age 16 working at Singers Catering in Rockland County. He quickly rose in rank, first as a maître d’ and by 19 he became a sales manager. From there he went on to work with some of the finest catering facilities in the Northeast. In 2003 he expanded his catering experience and joined the team at World Yacht where he instantly fell in love with being on the water. Tanzman, who was quoted as “one of the leading consultants in the hospitality industry” by Catering Trends Magazine and has also been recognized by the highly acclaimed Biz Bash organization & CNBC as one of the top 10 event producers in New York City, created Yacht Events to offer a more customized venue and extended services that better fit his clients’ needs.
“Yacht Events is uniquely positioned,” said Tanzman. As an event planner he doesn’t just link a client to a yacht; he produces the entire event, including floor plans, menus, lighting, sound and entertainment, with no detail overlooked. “Often, it’s one or the other,” he said. “Here we do it all and we do it well.”
Tanzman works closely with each client so that he could create the unique and unforgettable event they have in mind. “Flawless execution is the mission,” he said, adding that it’s the white glove service each client receives that takes the experience with Yacht Events to the next level.
As someone whose professional roots lie in kosher catering, Tanzman has a broad understanding of the kosher arena and has produced all types of events for the Orthodox population. The fleet includes yachts that accommodate an intimate party of 50 or as many as 1200, all with exceptional style and comfort. With decades of experience producing events on land, Tanzman says there is something magical about a party on a yacht with iconic New York City landmark views as the backdrop.
Tanzman has recently expanded his reach, taking over as managing consultant for Cornucopia Cruise line, one of the largest fleets of ships and yachts in New York and New Jersey. They currently own five yachts and are in the process of refurbishing three more. Looking ahead he hopes to meld Cornucopia with Yacht Events in order to offer his clients an even wider range of services.
Tanzman is excited about the future and disclosed that Yacht Events is working on two major projects in the Crypto and NFT market which will be announced soon, one specifically developed for the Orthodox community that will include an exclusive in-house kosher caterer.
Tanzman describes himself as an outgoing person who enjoys what he does. “I love the outdoors and I sail on almost all the events I produce,” and while the high season runs from April through October, he hosts events year-round. The ballrooms are climate controlled, and the views are just as breathtaking during the colder months, he said and added that pricing is competitive, so the budget is often the same as a similar party on land.
