Rabbi Shay Schachter Joins YU’s Torah Studies Faculty

(Courtesy of Yeshiva University) Rabbi Shay Schachter will be joining Yeshiva University as a full-time Torah Studies faculty member on YU’s Beren campus, beginning at the end of August 2022 with the start of the fall semester.

Rabbi Schachter currently serves as the rabbi and rosh beit midrash at the Young Israel of Woodmere, overseeing its extensive adult-education programs. He also serves as the rabbi and spiritual leader of Yachad, the Orthodox Union’s international program for individuals with disabilities. Since the summer of 2017, Rabbi Schachter has served as the rabbi of Camp Simcha, Chai Lifeline’s camp for children battling cancer and chronic illnesses.

Rabbi Schachter received his rabbinic ordination from RIETS and holds an MA in Jewish education and administration from the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University.

As a faculty member at Yeshiva University, Rabbi Schachter will teach courses in Halacha (Jewish law) and Machshava (Jewish thought). He will be spending several hours each week in the beit midrash and will serve as a valuable resource and mentor to students.

“Yeshiva University is the premier destination for women interested in high-level Torah learning, and I’m excited to connect with leading Torah personalities in the university and broader YU community,” Rabbi Schachter explained.

“Rav Schachter is a truly wonderful addition to our stellar Torah faculty and staff,” said Shoshana Schechter, associate dean of Torah Studies at Stern College. “He brings to YU a wealth of Torah knowledge and a deep commitment to Am Yisrael. Rabbi Schachter combines intellectualism, compassion and action. He embodies our core Torah values and will serve as an important role model to our students, both inside and outside the classroom. We greatly look forward to welcoming him to campus.”
