Naaleh commemorated Yom HaShoah with a meaningful program. It started with the beautiful singing of the Naaleh’s Nagila Choir. Then students and teachers came forward to speak about beloved family members who perished in the Holocaust or survived but have since passed away. Each of the six presenters lit a candle in memory of the six million. Everyone was then privileged to hear from Dr. Abe Bichler, a long time Fair Lawn resident and Holocaust survivor. Dr. Bichler shared his experiences during the Holocaust and the horrific atrocities he witnessed and endured. He ended with a message of hope about the “small miracles” that occurred that resulted in his survival. The program ended with the “Kel Maleh Prayer” and a rendition of “Ani Maamin” sung by the choir. For further commemoration of the day, there was a showcase of the 11th-grade studio art’s beautiful and meaningful “Sole Witness’’ project. Students researched personalities who suffered in the Shoah and decorated shoes—plaster cast from shoes of the time period—to commemorate the unique personality and story of each victim.
