New Brunswick/Piscataway—On May 6, Rutgers students were recognized for their academic achievements in Jewish Studies. Grants were also given both to undergraduate and graduate students for study in Israel, and for a special research project. In addition, the event celebrated the graduating seniors in the department this year, as well as the graduation of the first M.A. student in Jewish Studies at Rutgers. Highlights of the ceremony included student presentations of their diverse research.
The annual awards ceremony is sponsored by the Department of Jewish Studies and the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life is committed to academic excellence, fostering scholarly exchange and faculty research, and providing educational programs for the community at large.
The Department of Jewish Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to the academic study of all aspects of the Jewish experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses offered by the department, which are open to all students, address the historical, social, cultural, religious, and political life of the Jewish people from ancient times to the present.
