Twelve Teaneck residents are recipients of Teaneck Junior Soccer League’s (TJSL) college scholarships that recognize volunteers for their work as Youth Coaches in TJSL’s recreational, travel and TOP soccer programs. Each Youth Coach completed a national soccer coaching program and spent at least 30 hours a year coordinating team activities including practices, training sessions, and weekly games. In total, the 12 awardees volunteered more than 700 hours to the league.
The Youth Coaching program is open to Teaneck residents in grades 9 to 12. More than 30 high school students volunteer each year helping TJSL meet the coaching needs for its 70 teams in the recreational soccer program.
The TJSL college scholarship program is funded by families that do not volunteer as a coach or team parent. Recipients are awarded scholarships based on the total number of years of service to the organization.
The 2014 TJSL College Scholarship recipients are: Aneeka Ayyar, Gabi Baron, Jared Breen, Erin Burke, Ariana Cannonier, Erik Cruz, Rebecca Epstein, Dana-Marie Laloo, Claudia Samad, Rachel Schudrich, Tim Shater, and Kayla Silow-Carroll
