The World’s Best Shooter Comes to Bergen County

On June 18, Cmek and Yeshivat Ben Porat Yosef treated a packed gym to a shooting performance that few will ever see duplicated. Dave Hopla, considered by many to be the top shooter in the world, came to Bergen County for a basketball shooting demonstration. He regularly knocks down 495 out of 500 shots—while lecturing.

Wednesday was no exception. The New Jersey native sank shot after shot most hitting nothing but net. Starting under the basket and working his way out to NBA 3-point land, he shot over 500 and missed less than 10.

Hopla doesn’t just shoot, he teaches proper form, technique, and work ethic while shooting the lights out. He told the crowd that the two keys to a great shooter are proper form and executing that form (taking shots) more often than anyone else. Confidence leads to success, and positive thoughts translate to positive results, but you have to put in the time and work. Hopla told the JLBC, “You’re not going to become a better shooter or a better player just by playing games. It’s not going to happen. You wonder why guys can’t make free throws. They don’t practice them.”

Dave has worked with many NBA, WNBA, college, high school teams and players. Some big names that rave about him are Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, and Carmelo Anthony.
