Rabbi Chaim Jachter to be Scholar-in-Residence at Beth Aaron

Rabbi Chaim Jachter will be the Scholar-in- Residence on Shabbat, August 9, at Congrega­tion Beth Aaron. At 6:40 p.m., he will speak on “Halachic Perspectives on Civilian Casualties during War.” Between the 7:40 p.m. mincha and the 8:47 p.m. maariv, the topic will be “Are Ye­shiva Students Obligated to Serve in the Israe­li Army?”

Rabbi Jachter serves as the rabbi at Congre­gation Shaarei Orah, teaches at Torah Academy of Bergen County. He also serves as a Dayan on the Beth Din of Elizabeth. He has authored four volumes of Gray Matter, which discusses contemporary halachic issues. Rabbi Jachter has authored dozens of scholarly articles. His weekly columns on Halacha, Aggada, and Ta­nach, available at www.koltorah.org and www. yutorah.org. He is a member of the Rabbinical Council of America’s Halacha Committee and chairman of its Igun resolution committee.
