Mrs. Lisa Schlaff will speak on “Once Upon a Time:Rabbinic Stories as an Expression of Shifting Values”  The halakhic text of the Gemara is interspersed with stories that serve as a window into the rabbinic imagination.  She will trace the development of an aggadah about honoring parents over centuries, from the mishna to post-Talmudic times, in an attempt to understand how the stories reflect their times.
