Jimmy Cleveland’s Plumbing and Heating Will Fix Your Sewer, For Good

New Milford–Have you ever had a sewer that backed up repeatedly? Many homes in our community, those that were built between 50 and 70 years ago, at some point develop this kind of problem. It’s no fun, and if you have experienced it, you know how costly and inconvenient it is to have repeated visits by a plumber.

But, no more. Now, you can have your sewer cleaned and also figure out what’s wrong so you can fix it with a product that Master Plumber Jimmy Cleveland bought for his New Milford-based plumbing and heating business about a year ago. The $10,000 machine boasts a new technology called a General Eye video camera, which, combined with the General high-pressure sewer jetting machine, can really shed some light on what’s going on down there.

“The pipes corrode and get disgusting, and sludge forms on the inside of the pipe. Sometimes the pipe gets too narrow because of all the sludge. The video camera has a locator on it, and it records the information,” said Dawn Cleveland, who handles all the paperwork for the family business. “You get a chip that you can plug into your computer and watch the video of your sewer. It’s great; you find out what’s wrong, and you can show it at your next family gathering,” she joked. In addition to buildup of sludge, roots growing in pipes and other problems with trees are common sewer issue culprits.

New technology that helps plumbers do their work better is just the kind of thing that interests Jimmy, Dawn said. He’s worked in the field since he was a teenager, working for his father’s plumbing business, and then in 2006, Jimmy and Dawn opened their own business, with their son Jimmy Jr. in the field with his dad and Dawn doing the books. “To him it’s an art form. He takes it apart and puts it back together,” said Dawn. “He really enjoys it, and he enjoys taking care of his customers.”

Repeat business from loyal residential, commercial and industrial clients is what sets apart the Clevelands’ business. “We are a 24-hour service, including Sundays. We usually can provide same day or next day service. If you call at three o’clock in the morning, I will answer the phone,” said Dawn. Jimmy will also coach customers and help mitigate issues if he can’t get there immediately. “He’ll tell you how to shut off the water until he can get there. He’s known as Mr. Nice Guy. We’re not looking for one-time customers,” said Dawn.
