Bris Avrohom, headquartered in Hillside, NJ, recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary Dinner, held in the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel. The Guest of Honor was Chief Rabbi and Chairman of Yad Vashem Yisroel Meir Lau of Tel Aviv. He is also author of Out of the Depths.
The dinner was preceded by Bris Avrohom’s 29th Annual Gala Weddings, in which eight couples from the Former Soviet Union were married according to Jewish tradition. The parking lot of the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel was filled with the eight chupahs and each couple’s family and friends, numbering over 350 guests who came to participate in this important milestone in their lives. Executive Director Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky and his wife Shterney, Associate Director of Bris Avrohom, both prepared each couple for marriage and presented them, following the ceremonies, with wedding gifts that included sacred books published by Bris Avrohom with Russian translation, candlesticks, and a Kiddush cup to enhance their lives as a Jewish family.
With the Board of Directors looking on, attendees were privileged to listen to Rabbi Lau’s keynote address. The Community Service award was presented by Rabbi Kanelsky and Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan to Robert M. Durando, general manager of the George Washington Bridge. Rabbi/Cantor Berele Zaltzman was honored with the Kesser Shem Tov Award.
