Jewish Home is Co-Sponsor of Talk by Anne Frank’s Stepsister

Woodcliff Lake–On Monday, October 27, Eva Schloss, Anne Frank’s stepsister, will speak at the Bergen County Y, the JCC in Washington Township. Valley Chabad of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. will co-host the event as part of its Eternal Flame Holocaust Education Program. The Jewish Home Assisted Living is one of the sponsors of this historic evening.

Schloss, an author, Holocaust survivor, and stepsister of Anne and Margot Frank, will discuss how she went into hiding in Holland, was betrayed, captured and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Her father and brother did not survive the war, but she and her mother were freed in 1945 by Russian troops. They returned to Holland and her mother, Elfriede Geiringer later married Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father, in November 1953.

Eva met her husband Zvi Schloss, another Jewish refugee from Germany who had escaped to Palestine before the war. The couple had three daughters.

Today Eva Schloss is an 85-year-old grandmother, who began speaking about her family’s experience in the mid-1980s. The program will take place on October 27 at the Bergen County Y, a JCC in Washington Township at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 and $45 for adults and $15 for students. They can be purchased online at Eternalflame.org/annefrank or by calling 201-476-0157.

Valley Chabad’s Eternal Flame program is sponsored by the George and Martha Rich Foundation, which is dedicated to Holocaust education, genocide prevention, and the elimination of intolerance toward any minority group.
