In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is teaming up with BBC Salon in Tenafly for the second year in a row to support Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 who suffer from long-term hair loss from cancer or other medical conditions. Children receive their hairpieces free of charge. The goal is to provide them with some added self-esteem and confidence.

The JCC invites anyone in the community with 10 inches or more of hair to donate to make an appointment to support this highly worthwhile cause. They can help those in need by giving of themselves and sharing the experience with others who have the same desire to do something meaningful to make a difference. It is also a perfect bat mitzvah project or mitzvah opportunity for young girls who have been growing their hair to donate.

All participants will receive a complimentary haircut from BBC stylists. To qualify for a donation, hair must measure 10 inches from tip to tip, as that is the minimum length needed to make a hairpiece. Hair must also be clean, completely dry, and in a ponytail or braid before it is cut.
