Borscht for the 21st Century Hava Tequila Nights w/host Shane Baker

Cabaret Series Opens Wed., Oct 22 at the Triad in NYC

New York, NY—The high-stepping grandest old lady of off-Broadway and the Yiddish theater, now in its 100th Season,  the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] extends its reach to the next generation of culture mavens withHava Tequila Nights, a late-night cabaret showcasing an eclectic variety of contemporary Jewish entertainers.

The show debuts Wednesday, October 22, 9PM, at The Triad Theater/Stage72.

Billed as a borscht-belt floor show for the 21st Century, each Hava Tequila Nights consists of featured acts, preceded and followed by the comedic stylings of series’ host, performer and- vaudevillian-extraordinaire Shane Baker. Born in Kansas City and raised in an Episcopalian household, Baker is one of the country’s leading Yiddishists, whose unique profile in Jewish culture has made major headlines.

Performing October 22 are Vanessa Hidary AKA The Hebrew Mamita, the hip hop inspired spoken word artist and star of HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry Jam joined by Israeli vocalist ShlomitLevi, and Jewish Roots musician RebbeSoul, present infectious grooves in a unique blend of world music with a distinct Yemenite spice.

The series is presented in partnership with Congress for Jewish Culture, Taglit Birthright Alumni, Young Friends of The Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, Ezra USA,JDC Entwine and is sponsored by Joe Cooper in honor of Gittel Cooper.

  • Thursday, November 6: International superstarNeshamaCarlebach, continuing the legacy of her father, Rabbi SclomoCarleback, whose lifestory has been musicalized in the Broadway musicalSoul Doctor is joined byJosh Nelson, one of the most popular performers and composers in modern Jewish music. Opening the evening is Avi Fox-Rosen, the unapologetically genre defying singer and songwriter.
  • Wednesday, December 10: Pop Cabaret artistMira Stroika is joined by her rock band for an evening of lively and wildly entertaining music that fuses European cabaret traditions, punk and classical influences re-imagined into a fresh new sound. Comedian and playwrightHalley Bondy will open.
