#Giving Tuesday North Jersey, an internet-based, global philanthropic program, has been set for Tuesday, December 2, 2015. It is a “day dedicated to giving back,” a day when charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
The program is based on the calendar of events following Thanksgiving…Black Friday…Cyber Monday…and now #Giving Tuesday. In Northern New Jersey, the program has been organized by the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. United Water is the presenting company of the inaugural 2014 Giving Tuesday North Jersey campaign. The effort in Northern New Jersey is a coalition of over 20 charities
Founded three years ago by the 92nd Street Y in New York City and the United Nations Fund, organizers thought it would be a great idea to follow up the two heaviest shopping days of the year with a day “dedicated to giving back, inspired by the Jewish value of tikkun olam, or repairing the world.”
#Giving Tuesday has become an annual celebration of giving that unites 10,000+ organizations worldwide under one common purpose: to give back.,” notes the 92nd Street Y’s website.
The North Jersey #Giving Tuesday Coalition encourages you to remember the importance of giving back to the charity of your choice on December 2nd. The Jewish Home Family is participating in the coalition, doing public awareness and taking ads in local print media. To donate to the Jewish Home, go to www.jewishhomefamily.org
In addition, Jewish Home at Rockleigh, Gallen Adult Day Care Center, and Jewish Home Assisted Living in River Vale, N.J. are all offering volunteer programs, centering on a Medical Supply Sorting program. No longer needed but still usable medical supplies are collected from hospitals, nursing homes, corporations and individuals and shipped to countries that require them. Each JHF entity will have its own programs. All will be grateful for volunteer assistance. Please contact Charlene Vannucci at 201-784-1414, ext. 4237 if interested.
