THE GYM of Englewood Raises $7,000 for Breast Cancer Foundation

October classes and push-up contest help Bergen County based charity with funds for research

Englewood–THE GYM, a complete lifestyle and fitness center, honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month with fundraising events at its two Bergen County locations. THE GYM has raised over $11,000 combined for October 2013 and October 2014 for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, a local charity that funds breakthrough research to support the discovery of promising new treatments for patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), as well as programs and services benefitting patients with TNBC. Triple negative tumors generally do not respond to receptor-targeted treatment, can be particularly aggressive, and are more likely to recur than other subtypes of breast cancer.

“We are incredibly grateful to THE GYM and its members for their continuing efforts and longstanding support. By hosting a series of exciting events this past October, The Gym once again demonstrated its dedication to our community and helped raise funds for research, programs and services benefitting women and families battling triple negative breast cancer,” said Hayley Dinerman, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

THE GYM of Englewood scheduled a series of fundraising events, including a special triple threat dance class, spin class and a trainer push-up contest. Additionally, they sold T-shirts that directly benefited the cause.

“Attending the Triple Threat dance class was one of the most invigorating experiences I’ve ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the energy in the room and so did my daughter. As a triple negative breast cancer survivor and an advocate for healthy living, this was exactly what I needed. The staff and members really made me feel special and for that I am very grateful. I can’t wait to do it again,” said Eileen Fuentes.

Nurit Chasman, Group Fitness Director in Englewood, stated “I’m thrilled to yet again be supporting the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, it brings me so much happiness to contribute to a fabulous cause right here in our backyard. We have unprecedented support from both our staff and members, and I just want to thank them again, we couldn’t have done this without them.”

For the push-up contest, each trainer was sponsored, and each pushup completed raised much-needed funds for TNBCF. Nurit Chasman won the women’s class with 70 consecutive pushups, and Michael Feeks won the male class with 150 consecutive pushups.

THE GYM of Montvale conducted a variety of classes, including kickboxing, cross conditioning, spin, booty bare and circuit. They also sold special T-shirts that added to the overall donation total.

“I can’t begin to express the gratitude I feel,” said Lisa Bruchalski, Group Fitness Director in Montvale. “Not only did we have a fantastic event for an even better cause, but we had the full support of our members behind us.”
