Dr. Carol Glaser Offers Divorce Support Group and Relationship Workshop

Teaneck–As Dr. Carol Glaser’s divorce support group for Orthodox women concludes after meeting for almost two years, a new group is forming to provide support for divorced or divorcing women. Dr. Glaser is an experienced marriage and family therapist and is also licensed as a psychotherapist. She practices in Teaneck.

The divorce support group will begin Tuesday January 20, 2015, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There is no fee. Interested women may call with questions or to RSVP: 201-833-8822. All responses will be kept strictly confidential.

Glaser moved with her husband to Teaneck from San Diego 23 years ago, seeking a Jewish education for their four daughters. After 11 years, the family moved to Toronto. They returned five years ago and have continued to be active members of the community.

When Glaser lived here initially, she held the divorce support group at the behest of a Congregation Bnai Yeshurun congregant, who had attended a divorce support group at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan. Glaser resumed the group in Teaneck two years ago because of a community need. Glaser told JLNJ that the community rebbeim have continued to be supportive of the divorce support group; information about the group can be found in various shul bulletins.

Glaser mentioned that since it is a support group, members may socialize outside of the group if they wish. Often, friendships develop from the group. Many topics are covered, such as child custody, family interactions, self-esteem, or children’s issues. If there are serious issues that are particularly sensitive and not group-appropriate, Dr. Glaser will refer the person to a more helpful resource.

In addition to her divorce support group, Glaser also offers therapeutic services to both individuals, couples and families. Glaser has recently been working with a number of young women, and has been focusing on helping them understand their involvement in interpersonal relationships. To this end, she will be offering a two-session workshop for young, unmarried women between the ages of 22 and 32. The workshop is called “Finding Integrity in Relationships.” This workshop will occur on February 2nd and 9th, from 8pm to 9:30pm. There will be a fee of $90 for both sessions or $50 for one session. To sign up, please contact Dr. Glaser at 201-833-8822.
