While I applaud Mr. Distenfeld’s efforts in attempting large scale cost reduction (“A Viral Opportunity: Response, Resolution and Revolution,” May 7, 2020), and while he puts forth a few great suggestions as to how we can collectively do our parts to achieve this goal, there is another solution: Move. The last time that I checked, there are Jewish communities in places like Memphis, Jacksonville and Detroit. To be sure, the opportunities for employment, access to kosher food, education and social interaction are far greater in the tristate (and other major metropolitan) areas, but it’s entirely possible to live an incredible life in South Bend, Indiana without having to worry about all the nonsense associated with having to keep up with everyone else in Bergen County and beyond. Nobody is forced to live here and if I were so inclined, I could sell my modest home in Teaneck and probably live like a king in 80% of the rest of the country.
