A Festival of Lights: Lamdeinu to Host Annual Chanukah Breakfast on December 22

(Courtesy of Lamdeinu) Although the Hebrew calendar makes everything feel “late” this year, Chanukah is speedily approaching! Lamdeinu, an educational institute in Teaneck that provides high-level Torah learning for women and men of all ages, offers a few different ways to help you prepare for the Festival of Lights.

First, enlighten your season this coming Monday from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. with Rabbi Noach Goldstein who will be speaking about “Publicizing the Miracle: What Does It Mean, Why Does It Matter?”

Second, Lamdeinu is having a Chanukah Yom Iyun, open to men and women of all ages, on December 23 from 10:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The Yom Iyun will feature Ms. Miriam Krupka-Berger who will speak about “Dying to Believe: Modern Martyrdom and the Book of Maccabees,” and Rabbi Ilan Schimmel who will discuss “The Meaning of Miracles: Where Judaism Meets Philosophy.”

And, acharonah acharonah chavivah, join Lamdeinu’s Fifth Annual Chanukah Breakfast on Sunday, December 22, at 9:15 a.m.! Lamdeinu is continually growing and benefitting from new learners, thinkers, teachers and supporters, and this is the perfect opportunity to meet them. Please join Lamdeinu for an inspiring morning of community, connection and divrei Torah to nourish your soul… and a full breakfast buffet to nourish your body!

The Lamdeinu Breakfast is co-chaired by the wonderful Ruth Krasner and Danielle Druck, and Lamdeinu is thrilled to honor two incredible women, Ina Tropper and Ruth Hartstein.

Ina Tropper’s passion for Torah has infused Lamdeinu since its beginning. She has studied Parshanut HaMikra for almost two decades in a remarkable class under the expert guidance of Dean Rachel Friedman. In Ina’s words, “It is an inspiring experience to begin each week with an exceptional group of women at Lamdeinu who are all drawn to the subject matter and to our outstanding teacher.” In her life beyond Lamdeinu, Ina has been an active leader in various organizations and causes, including Amit, Drisha, SAR Academy, Riverdale Jewish Center and the Riverdale Minyan. Ina and her husband, David, are blessed with four married children—Elisha and Erit, Jonathan and Stephanie, Amram and Elisheva, Dassi and Meir and many wonderful grandchildren, both in New York and Israel.

Ruth Hartstein, an enthusiastic Lamdeinu student since its inception, served as Lamdeinu’s program director from 2016 to 2018. She is currently the director of operations at Kehilat Kesher in Englewood, New Jersey. Ruth sits on the executive board of Yeshivat He’Atid, serving as its board secretary, and is on the board of directors of Congregation Rinat Yisrael. She earned a BA in philosophy from Queens College and an MA in Jewish communal service from Gratz College. Ruth hails from Holbrook, New York, and has been a Teaneck resident for 10 years with her husband, Daniel; their three children, Naava, Aaron and Maytal; and their five pets.

Whether you are a Lamdeinu “veteran” or you have never attended before, you are most welcome to come spend your Sunday morning at the breakfast, and learn more about Lamdeinu. You will also be among the first to hear about this upcoming semester, which will begin in January.

To register, please visit the breakfast page on their website at https://www.lamdeinu.org/breakfast/, and feel free to contact them with any questions or comments at [email protected]. Please RSVP by December 15.

The breakfast will be held at Congregation Beth Aaron, 950 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666. Looking forward to celebrating with you!
