Saadia and Marla Shapiro of Englewood, New Jersey, both attorneys, announce the engagement of their daughter Galila to Elie Flatow, son of Kathy and Arnie Flatow of Great Neck, New York. Mr. Flatow is the executive director of the North Shore Hebrew Academy.

Galila is beginning her first year at Einstein Medical College, where she earned a full scholarship. She is a graduate of the Moriah School and The Frisch School, and learned for a year in Israel at Midreshet Yeud. She graduated with honors from Stern College where she was captain of the tennis team.

Elie is beginning his first year at Touro Medical School. He graduated from North Shore Hebrew Academy and post-high school learned at Eretz HaTzvi in Israel. He graduated from Yeshiva University with honors.

Elie asked Galila to go on a leisurely hike, and she assumed they were out to have a lovely, relaxing day. But her friends and family knew that the final destination was the Englewood Boat Basin, and they waited there with cameras to catch the proposal. They came armed with flowers and champagne for Elie to give to Galila.

Galila and Elie were introduced by friends at an Upper West Side Shabbat dinner. They are planning a June 2018 wedding so they can complete their first year of medical school.
