As the culmination of our Holocaust unit, students spent time learning about recent world tragedies. We discussed and wrote about how we personally can make a difference in the world. Many people are struggling right now in Nepal because of the recent calamitous earthquake. Measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale, this earthquake left more than 5,000 dead and thousands more homeless. We want to help, so we are organizing a fundraiser that will raise money for emergency relief for those in Nepal affected by the earthquake. From spending so much class time on the value of empathy and social justice, we know how important it is for each individual to stand up for human dignity.
