It’s about time.

How many Palestinian school children have been poisoned into hatred of Jews and Israel because of the toxic mixture of misinformation they have read and have been spoon fed through textbooks.

Last week a European Parliament committee voted to put a freeze on over $17 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority because of textbook incitement against Israel.

For decades, Israel has brought this textbook issue to the attention of the world, to no avail.

The textbooks, published and disseminated for grades 1-12, encourage Palestinian students to “sacrifice their lives in the name of religion” while glorifying violent resistance and martyrdom.

The committee reported that the textbooks, published by the PA in 2017, “contain, across all subjects, numerous examples of violent depictions, hate speech – in particular against Israel – and glorifications of jihad and martyrdom.

This action represents only five percent of the funding the EU gives to underwriting Palestinian schools.

It is a good start, however. It follows the path the US started by cutting funds to the PA being used to compensate families of terrorists. We would hope within the realm of civility that cutting back funds to the PA would help discourage terrorism and encourage peace.

But again we’re talking about civility and the PA in the same sentence. As we know, these words sadly have difficulty finding one another.

The EU will actually vote on this measure sometime late in October. If it passes, the EU will go ahead and withhold the funds from the PA until it makes a commitment to take hate out of its textbooks.

As the late Prime Minister Golda Meir once said, “We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.”

This is a textbook case of hatred against Jews and Israel. Let’s hope the EU’s actions will result in a different Middle East lesson plan.
