A Time for Thanks and a Prayer for Peace

History was made on Wednesday. President Donald Trump’s announcement that the U.S. will recognize the rightful identity of Jerusalem makes it official in the eyes of the world that the place of our holy Temples, Jewish birthright and the seat of the Israeli government, is, in fact, Israel’s capital.

But we’ve been saying this since long before the 1967 Six Day War when the IDF reclaimed the Kotel and all of Jerusalem from Jordan.

While we wholeheartedly applaud this move, we also hope that the decision doesn’t cause an irresponsible response from those who would use terror in the Arab world. It seems that the Palestinians don’t miss an opportunity to find a reason to resort to violence against Israel.

The president’s announcement comes at a time when Israel is finding more in common with certain Arab nations who, like the Jewish state, find concern in the influence of a rogue Iran. And it comes at a time when a carefully watched “reunion” between Hamas and Fatah is falling apart before it even had a chance to start. The Palestinian narrative continues to hold onto a story of anger, violence, distrust, aggression and blood libel against Israel, over the economic and educational development of its own society.

Jerusalem has always been the spiritual capital of Eretz Yisrael, and in more modern times the seat of government for Medinat Yisrael.

We pray that reason will now bring a peaceful acceptance of the Trump administration’s actions. It is our deepest prayer that this action shelters Jerusalem and all Israel from harm and ushers in a new era of peaceful collaboration.
