There may seem to be more critical issues in the Jewish community, but I believe we cannot overlook traffic safety. This is something that we can and should do something about.
Two concerns come to light (no pun):
- Pedestrian Safety: As the days are getting shorter there is more walking to or from services during times of limited visibility. Unlike in Teaneck where I see many wearing reflective belts, here in Passaic I see balabatim in all black, walking in the street and crossing streets in the dark. By the way, if you are hit while crossing in a crosswalk, perhaps your survivors will be able to sue —small comfort.
- Electric Vehicle Safety: I live at a fairly busy corner. I see youngsters on electric scooters and electric bicycles who are ignorant of traffic safety. Perhaps the schools should take up this gauntlet.
