The first week of sports at Camp Dora Golding (CDG) has been impressive. The leagues program has been terrific as kids are settling into a groove on their teams. The Mullets, Handlebars, Chin Straps, Mutton Chops and Mohawks. These are not new hairstyles that the boys are sporting, but their league team names. Between hockey, basketball, softball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee and football, the courts and fields have been very busy.
This year CDG has upped its game by bringing in eight full time coaches to work in the sports program. The coaches run clinics and also referee the league and bunk games. As they have all played competitive sports, their expertise has really energized the sports programs at the camp. Kids have been picking the brains of these pros to learn different skills.
Sportsmanship is also very important at CDG. The boy’s lineup and show respect to each other after the games. This helps kids see that sports go way beyond winning and losing.
As the three weeks are upon us, fewer leisure sports and more competitive games are played—more opportunity to have fun in a Torah atmosphere.
