Abby Lowe, who resides with her family in the Country Club section of Teaneck, is a sixth grader at Yavneh Academy. When a friend from camp was diagnosed with cancer, spending long periods of time in the hospital, Lowe became sensitive to the plight of young patients. She decided to liven the spirits of young, hospitalized patients through a contribution of tasty Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which provides doughnuts at discounted prices to eligible non-profits.
Through word of mouth in the community, Lowe sold 113 dozen doughnuts, raising $600 for the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital of Hackensack University Medical Center. In addition, contributors purchased 14 dozen doughnuts to be delivered to frontline workers at Hackensack University Medical Center and two dozen to first responders at TVAC. The deliveries to the hospital and TVAC were a family affair, including proud parents Tamar and Matt, and younger sister Lily, a fourth grader at Yavneh Academy.
